Award-Winning Bathroom

Bathroom Remodel

This growing family has two small children, they are constantly on the go, and don’t have much adult downtime. To combat this hectic lifestyle, they were looking to update their existing master bathroom into a stylish “kid-free zone” where they could relax and make the most of the limited downtime they have.

Not only were they looking for a bathroom that was brighter, modern, and more adult-focused but they were also looking for a more functional layout that better suited their needs. They didn’t like the amount of space that the large and unused whirlpool tub took up and desired a layout that allowed the room to flow with more walking space in between each area. They also desired the ability to both be in the space at the same time, something they didn’t feel they could in their current cramped space.

This couple needed more open and functional layout and also wanted to incorporate a large double vanity that gave them a proper his and hers area to get ready. Keeping with their desire to make the room feel larger, they also wanted more lighting throughout and the angled ceiling more incorporated into the aesthetics of the room to give the illusion of more height in their existing bathroom. All while not adding any additional square footage.

Light, bright, and kid-free! The dated and cramped bathroom was completely remodeled to make this large master suite more functional and a place that the parents could relax and unwind from their non‐stop days. The angled ceiling wasn’t removed but it was completely incorporated into the shower, as the homeowners were hoping. To emphasize the height of the room the over‐sized subway tile was run from floor to ceiling to draw the eye up in a continuous line of sight; while the enlarged shower space completely hides the angled bathroom ceiling giving the illusion of a larger space.

The dated angled shower was removed and a large dual, walk in shower was added in its place. The addition of this allowed us to move the toilet into its own alcove for additional privacy and better overall flow of the room. Functional space. It’s what this couple was looking for, almost above all else. To achieve this, the large whirlpool tub was removed, and in its place the desired double vanity was placed flush against the wall, creating an area where both husband and wife could comfortably get ready together.

This shift in layout created a more logical balance in the room than was there previously and opened the flow of the room.

One of the biggest complaints from these homeowners was that they couldn’t both be at the bathroom sink at the same time, and they couldn’t access their storage without bumping into the toilet. Not wanting to lose all the storage space entirely, they simply what they did have to be more user friendly. What would normally be a large space was cramped with oversized pieces and a layout that did not function as a true master suite.

The new layout solved all of these issues. By removing the large whirlpool tub, the space was able to be utilized for a double vanity that included a more stylish storage option than the previous tower. Venetian bronze Kohler fixtures coordinate with the cabinet hardware as well as the trim on the matching vanity mirrors. Elegant sconces add ambiance and stylish focused task lighting and are also finished in a coordinating oil rubbed bronze finish. The new location for the sinks provides ample space both between the shower and the vanity, as well as enough space for two people to be at the sink at the same time. Matching under counter farmhouse sinks adds an unexpected element of style to the painted vanity with granite countertop.

With the relocation of the vanity and enlarging of the walk‐in shower, an alcove was created for the newly positioned toilet. This created a more private space and further utilized every square foot of the existing bathroom space.

The previous bathroom layout emphasized relaxation in the whirlpool tub and left the stand-up shower awkwardly placed in the corner. The shower area was cramped and didn’t allow much space for movement. This left the shower area feeling more like an afterthought, especially for homeowners who preferred showering over soaking in the tub. They wanted the tub removed and a larger, more luxurious shower installed in their redesigned master suite.

By removing the whirlpool tub, and moving the toilet further down the wall this created a larger area to give this couple a true walk in shower, completely making up for the space their previous shower lacked. Oversized subway tile runs floor to ceiling to emphasize the height of the room and make the shower feel even more expansive. Dark grout was used not only to contrast with the white tile but also to continue the gray color palette of the room. Visual contrast was added with a neutral gray hexagonal mixed mosaic patterned floor.

Dual Kohler Venetian bronze rain showerheads, as well as a matching Kohler hand shower on slide bar were added to make their shower an even more relaxing experience. Bench seating provides an area to sit and relax while a custom niche provides stylish storage for everyday items. Additional can lights were added to the shower space to ensure the space was bright, no matter if being used during the day or night.

This master suite includes a Kohler DTV prompt digital showering system with dual access panels. This allows for the homeowner to control not only the temperature of the heated floor but also the temperature and pressure of their shower as well, and can be accessed from both inside and outside of the shower.

Large plank tiles were installed on the floor to continue the neutral and bright décor of the room, and to coordinate with the vanity countertop. The tile floor is heated, to further enhance the decadence of the space. To satisfy the homeowner’s desire for a light and bright space, a new Plygem white vinyl window was installed and trimmed out in white woodwork. Increasing energy efficiency as well as aesthetically continuing the color palette of the room.
